Brief
The two-storey Victorian terrace was to be extended at ground floor and a series of walls removed to create an open-plan living space.
Aim
To design the permanent support structure of the existing 2-storeys to achieve the architectural feature of open-plan ground floor with glazed walls and roof.
Solution
Structural steel frames on reinforced concrete foundations enabled buried services to be straddled whilst achieving feature full-height glazed walls intersecting at right angles.
