Brief
Conversion of roof loft to a master bed room with en-suite. Extension of the ground floor into the rear garden zone to form a large open-plan kitchen and dining room with large amounts of natural light.
Aim
To be designed and detailed within a constrained time frame and to gain Thames Water, Party Wall and Building Control approvals. Maximise the open plan effect by complete removal of existing rear wall and introduction of glazing to roof and walls to maximise natural lighting.
Solution
Independent steel framed floor to new loft supporting timber framing to floor joists, walls and roof. To the ground floor extension a steel stability sway frame replaced the rear wall and a lightweight steel frame provided stability to the single-storey extension enabling large zones of full height glazing to be introduced to the rear elevation and roof.
