Brief
To convert the main roof into a habitable loft. To create an open-plan space to the existing rear annex structure at ground floor level by constructing a single-storey side extension and removing the existing flank wall.
Aim
To maximise the available height to the loft conversion as well as the natural lighting to it. Achieve an open-plan arrangement within the main house and to introduce large areas of glazing to the walls and roof for natural light whilst maintaining high thermal properties. To be designed and detailed to attain Party Wall award & Building Control approval.
Solution
The glazed elements of roof, walls and stairs were frameless where possible. Structural steel was used to open-up the external wall to the side extension. Engineered timber joists formed the new loft floor supported by structural steel beams. Roof modifications in timber.
