Brief
To construct a new 2-storey contemporary home at the end of a Victorian Terrace. Designed by Red Squirrel Architects this award winning home sought to have an open-plan ground floor that linked to both front and rear garden spaces.
Aim
An extremely tight corner plot required a structural solution that would maximise the use of the narrow plot-width and allow building to a reduced ground level up to both side boundaries. The design details required approval from new-build warranty provider, Thames Water, Building Control and for Party Wall award.
Solution
A reinforced concrete raft was employed as a springboard for retaining walls and the structural steel superstructure. A feature was the curved facade requiring a curved steel beam to support timber framed walls, 1st floor and roof joists.
